Today we were going to go for a drive either up the Oregon coast on Highway 101 or down State Route 211 around Petrolia. Both offer some nice views and roadside shooting.
You see, I put my back out, quite painfully a few days ago. On my birthday, actually, and I have not been very mobile since then. I am starting to feel a bit better and with lots of OTC pain medication and the wonder that is seat heat, I figured we could have a bit of fun, do some photography, and I could spend some time working with my new Gitzo tripod and Really Right Stuff ballhead.
Unfortunately, we got to about Loleta, having decided to head south today, and it started sprinkling. We stopped at the Fernbridge fruit stand to pick up some fruit and realized that it looked as if it was going to be wet for the rest of the day. So we turned for home.
Now I am sitting at my computer working on Photoshop instead. For me it is almost as enjoyable. I only miss being outdoors, but I love nurturing my images to make them the best I can. I am also finding it a good way to look critically at my photography and think about what I need to improve to get it right in the camera next time. Or at least closer to right than last time. I still have so much to learn. And I can finally say that I have been truly inspired and given a direction for my photographic vision, for who I am as a photographer. I am starting to figure out how to define my vision. Where to go from here. More on that later. Obviously I am still sorting it all out.
Right now I am working on a set from the 2008 Kinetic Sculpture Grand Championship, that is how far behind I am. So I plan on working furiously (?) to get all caught up before we got to Vancouver Island next summer.
I also have another show in October to prepare for. I have 1 or 2 new pieces I'd like to get printed, framed, and hung, but who knows if we'll have time for all that. I may have to go with what I have.
