This is an old post moved over from Livejournal.
We went hiking Saturday at Prairie Creek Redwoods along the Rhododendron Trail and saw this great example of a Nurse Tree. I just had to stop and take a picture. Eventually the log will decay and then the live tree will have open arches between it and the ground.
